NMB Bank CEO Ruth Zaipuna Awarded top continental business leadership award at the UK’s House of Lords event

Chief Technology And Digital Transformation – Kwame Makundi receiving the African Business Leadership Commendation Award for 2022 from a Member, UK House of Lords and Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to Africa on behalf of the NMB Bank’s Chief Executive Officer – Ruth Zaipuna who was awarded at Africa Summit and African Business Leadership Awards (ABLA) which was conducted at UK House of Lords over the weekend. The award recognized her for an exceptional corporate practices and outstanding achievements in Africa’s business landscape.

 
Dar es Salaam. The Chief Executive Officer of NMB Bank Plc, Ms Ruth Zaipuna, has been awarded the prestigious “African Business Leadership Commendation Award” for 2022 for her outstanding stewardship of the top lender in the country.

 

Ms Zaipuna was awarded the continent’s top business management accolade by the African Leadership Magazine during the just-concluded Africa Summit and African Business Leadership Awards (ABLA) in recognition of her efforts in making NMB Bank impact positively on Tanzanians’ lives and its socio-economic development contribution in the country.

 

Published by the African Leadership Organization Limited, the influential UK-based magazine principally seeks to celebrate African achievements and excellence by primarily focusing on showcasing the best of Africa to a global audience.

 

According to the founder and executive chairman of the organisation, Dr Ken Giami, Ms Zaipuna was conferred with the honour for her leadership excellence and making NMB innovation leader in the banking sector.

 

He said that apart from being a smart seasoned banker with strong business tenacity, the NMB leader has equally excelled in helping to create jobs and supported wealth generation across Africa.

 

“You have been unanimously selected for conferment with the Special African Business Leadership Commendation Award. Your selection for this award and induction is hinged on your leadership excellence and innovation in the banking sector,” Dr Giami said in a letter to Ms Zaipuna.

 

He added that Ms Zaipuna was selected for the honour after a rigorous vetting and merit-based selection process by a team of the organization’s editorial board.

 

Representing her at the event, the bank’s Chief of Technology and Digital Transformation, Mr Kwame Makundi, said the international honour means a lot to the lender and the whole of Tanzania at large. According to him, the award was testament to deliberate efforts that the NMB leadership has been putting together to better lives in the country.

 

In her remarks to the ABLA gathering, Ms Zaipuna said the award does not only recognise her achievements and contributions as a business leader but also acknowledges the support NMB is getting from the government and the role being played by the Bank of Tanzania to enable it thrive and continue to deliver sustainable value to its stakeholders.

 

“I am humbled to be stewarding an organization with a growing reputation as a socio-economic development financier that positively impacts the lives of so many every day. The responsibility and privilege is not taken lightly,” Mr Makundi said on her behalf.

 

The bank said in a statement that the African Leadership Magazine awarded the NMB leader and her colleagues for their exceptional corporate practices and outstanding achievements in Africa’s business landscape and the continent’s private sector.

 

A statement, availed to the media in Dar es Salaam yesterday, shows that apart from Ms Zaipuna, other exceptional African business leaders who received the ABLA on July 4, 2022 included Lesotho’s billionaire businessman, Sam Matekane who bagged the Lifetime Achievement Award and Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development, Mauritius Dr Renganaden Padayachy who went home with the African Finance Minister of the Year Award. The African Business Leader of the Year Award was presented to the chairman of Platform Capital Nigeria, Dr Akintoye Akindele while Mr Peter Ashade, Group CEO of United Capital Plc, Nigeria received the African CEO of the Year Award.

Other distinguished awardees include Dr Emmanuel C. Nwogbo, Group Managing Director, Alfa Centauri West Africa Ltd, Nigeria, winner, African Inspiration Leadership Impact Award; Mastercard Africa, winner, African Business Integrity Leader Award and Figueiredo, CEO, Moza Banco, Mozambique, winner, African Inspirational Business Leadership Award.

Also honoured during the presentation ceremony were Dr Ifie Sekibo, CEO, Heritage Bank Plc, Nigeria, winner of the African Business Integrity Leadership Award; Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director General/CEO, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), winner of Special African Leadership Commendation Award and Mr Peter Ejiofor, Chief Executive Officer, Ethnos IT Solutions, Nigeria, winner, African Leadership Excellence Award.
