Mo Dewji Foundation donates 100 million to fight cancer

The Mo Dewji Foundation, established by businessman Mohamed Dewji, has provided Sh. 100 million to support the treatment of children suffering from Cancer.

 

Handing over the aid in Dar es Salaam to the Life Hope Institute at the Muhimbili National Hospital, Director of the Mo Dewji Foundation, Rachel Carp said the aid aims to improve health and restore hope to patients.

 

Rachel said apart from providing the financial support, they have provided laundry soaps, bath soaps and towels which they believe are among the most important needs for the victims.

 

"The Mo Dewji Institute focuses on education, community development, health and gender empowerment. We believe that the best available health services are human rights, and we are committed to improving health services here in Tanzania" he said

 

He said that since 2013, they have collaborated with the Muhimbili National Hospital through Tumaini la Maisha, the largest Children's Cancer Center in East Africa.

 

Rachel said they continue to work with Hope of Life because their programs are important to the lives of people in East African countries.

 

"Their programs provide medical and non-medical services for children, such as the purchase of Chemotherapy drugs, assistance with the school program, maintenance of a transportation plan for patients and their caregivers, assistance with the sports therapy program for patients, support in life skills training for parents, packages for newly admitted patients, and wage support for non-health workers" he said

 

He called on all Tanzanians to support the important efforts of Tumaini la Maisha and other non-governmental organizations that are engaged in empowering the many disadvantaged people in Tanzania.

 

 Speaking immediately after receiving the help of laundry soap, bathing and clothes, Eliza Sanga, who is the parent of a child receiving cancer treatment at the Muhimbili National Hospital, said that the help is a liberator for them and asked other Tanzanians to imitate the spirit of self-sacrifice as Mo Dewji did. "We have many important needs and some of us do not have the ability, so when we are helped, we are more relieved," he said.


 Receiving an example of a check of Sh. 100 million, the Chairman of the Board of the Hope of Life Foundation, Gerald Mongella has said that Mo Dejwi Foundation has shown a good example of helping a community in need, so he has asked other Tanzanians to get involved in helping the treatment of children with cancer.

 

"The government alone cannot do everything at the level that everyone needs, but with the cooperation of various stakeholders, the respective goals are reached and the troubled society finds comfort," he said.
